Delhi: India is in a bit of a bind, as a bus rental agency is offering an unprecedented discount on its rental of buses.
For the past three months, the government has been trying to figure out how to implement a new subsidy scheme for buses, as many states and municipalities have been running out of money.
But the bus rental company says the subsidy scheme is not working well.
Rents for buses in Delhi are among the lowest in the country, and the company is offering a 50% discount for a short stay, to accommodate the buses that it manages.
“Our buses are used by more than 30 lakh people a day, so a discount of 50% to 60% is a huge amount of money for us,” said Virendra Kumar, president of the company.
The bus rental scheme was introduced last year to help subsidise the cost of providing a bus to the city’s buses.
But it was not enough to cover the subsidy of Rs 1.5 lakh, which has been the main revenue source for the bus companies.
The government said the scheme was meant to help the private sector, but not the public sector.
“The government is spending Rs 1 lakh crore on buses and this money has been misused.
It is a waste of money,” said Pranab Singh, the transport minister.
He said the government should create a system that would work for both private and public sector operators.
The government has allocated Rs 4,000 crore for the scheme.
In fact, in Delhi alone, there are more than 11,000 bus operators and nearly 80% of them operate buses from Delhi-NCR.
“It’s a matter of public safety, and a huge issue for us as well,” said Sushil Sharma, the managing director of bus rental firm Bussinga.
“This subsidy scheme needs to be set up in the state and the department of urban development has been taking on the task.”
Buses are a popular form of transport in India.
They are often used to move people around the city, from one area to another.
The buses are popular among commuters who want to commute from home to work or from school to college.
The subsidy scheme has been in place for about two months, but the companies say that the government is still not sure how the subsidy works.
“We need a system to manage this,” said Kumar.
“There is no single point of contact with the government, which means we are unable to do anything.”
